With respect to the country’s increasingly regulated economy, many companies are carrying out an increasing number of mergers and acquisitions, cross-border activities and capital market transactions.

Kenya has various laws and regulations governing taxation. Businesses and individuals are subject both directly and indirectly making it quite obvious that there are cases of double taxation and as lawyers we give expert advice on taxation and planning as well as negotiation and contesting tax disputes.

We advise on tax matters, including the most efficient structuring of transactions and the selection of appropriate tax structures for setting up new businesses.

Nevertheless, we always allow our clients to choose a preferred course of action after presenting all viable avenues for consideration.

To further the client’s organizational goals, we also work with our clients to develop compliance programs and other techniques to minimize the risk of future litigation. The firm has strong negotiators, aggressive litigators, serious and creative thinkers, backed by superior strategic management in handling contentious and potentially contentious matters.

Our litigation expertise includes debt collection and recoveries (anchored on systematic approaches to debt collection, including alternative dispute resolution processes before going to court), insolvency, business liquidation and bankruptcies, reviews and appeals of complaints relating to public contracts, employer-employee disputes before the courts, disputes between landlords and tenants, etc. We also advise in international law, in particular to international organizations, government agencies, on different international claims, in particular with regard to the Kenyan, Burundian, Tanzanian and Congolese approach to the dualistic slope of international law and its application of claims and binding orders against Kenyans, Burundians, Tanzanians and Congolese or against individuals or organizations in other jurisdictions.

Our experience also covers the presentation of tax law issues, including but not limited to in absentia investigations, judicial review and injunctive relief, among other remedies to reverse unlawful actions, restrain abuse of process, to carry out public policy initiatives.

We also provide public law advice, in particular to public entities, the private sector as well as the general public on matters concerning public law.
